Hey Dan Seals – Voters worry about more than Iraq

From today’s USA Today:

In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday, the Iraq war still tops the list of issues cited as most important. It's raised twice as often as the next-ranking issue, the economy. In April, however, the war was cited three times more than any other issue.

When domestic and economic concerns are combined, they are mentioned more often than the war, terrorism and foreign policy by 9 percentage points. That's the reverse of findings last spring, when the war-related issues were cited more often.

"When you see the news coverage, the war is improving; the surge is working," says Dorothy DeMasi, 65, of Hellertown, Pa., a Democrat who was among those polled. These days, she's more concerned about Americans being squeezed by the mortgage crisis. "Health care is another biggie," she says.

I think Mark Kirk has balanced his approach between domestic issues and the war in Iraq/foreign relations. Not so much the other candidates whose only issue seems to be the war. Do you think shifting voter concerns will cause any change in their campaign strategies?

for all the "i'm not kirk" claims from both seals and footlik - the only issue they seem to greatly differ on is Kirk's strong foreign policy stance.

They claim to be about protecting the environment and kids and education - all areas in which Kirk has proven his leadership and experience.

I have a feeling that neither Dan or Jay would be as fiscally responsible as Kirk. (didn't seals supporter EBG try to make the case that the bridge to nowhere was a good idea?)

badge of honor.....you are right. When it comes to all those issues that matter to the voters in this district, Mark Kirk IS the proven leader. Neither Seals nor Footlik can come close to Congressman Kirk on foreign policy. Then again, neither of them can talk about, have knowledge about, even care about the multitude of issues right here in this district that our Congressman has addressed and helped solve. And yes, that sad woman on the 10th Dem blog, EBG, did chastise Mr. Kirk for going after that infamous "bridge". Wonder what she was thinking. Then again, the only thing she thinks about is how to attack, generally without merit, anything that Mr. Kirk has done. Not sure you've noticed, but it's awfully quiet over there. It seems her loyalists have flown the proverbial 'coop' in search of other places. With both Seals and Footlik unemployed, that gives them lots of time to be out and about campaigning in the district. Can't wait to hear what explanations they have for their employment status......or, more to the point, their lack of employment.

Mark Kirk has wasted a trillion of our tax dollars and a pointless occupation. I don't consider that fiscally conservative. He has also undermined our civil liberties by voting for legislation like the Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act. He claims he did this because his primary responsibility is to keep us safe, but his oath of office is to the Constitution. Voting against the 1st and 4th Amendments, and destroying habeas corpus, does not uphold the Constitution, and it's certainly not "conservative."

On the bridge to nowhere, Mark Kirk is a FRAUD.

Sure, he grandstanded about an amendment against the bridge. He claimed he was successful.

Yet all Congress did was eliminate the specific earmark. THE AMOUNT OF MONEY ALLOCATED TO ALASKA DID NOT CHANGE AND THE TAXPAYER DID NOT SAVE ONE RED CENT FROM MARK KIRK'S GRANDSTANDING.

Kirk is on the right side of the bridge to nowhere - he helped bring it to light - going up against thed powerful ted stevens -the republican chair of transportation. the project was dead - then the dems took over and well as you say Alaska got to keep the money.

Who's the fraud?
