I like Debbie Halvorson and would vote for her if I could:

State Sen. Debbie Halvorson of Crete confirmed today that she will seek the Democratic nomination for Congress for the 11th Congressional District -- the seat being vacated next year by 14-year veteran Rep. Jerry Weller, R-Morris. Halvorson was in session with the Illinois Senate and said she would make a formal announcement as early as today. She is the first woman ever to be majority leader in the Senate and has three years left on her current term.

This is going to be THE race of '08 here in Illinois. Despite the DCCC assertions, both LaHood's seat and Hastert's seat will be Republican holds, but enough resources will be funneled in to make the races competitive.

Not only is Will County's population continuing to swell every year, but it also is trending more and more democratic.

The wide-open race in Weller's district means that Dan Seals / Jay Footlik will have a rough go of it when the home stretch starts.

With all the retirements nationally, even the cash-flush DCCC will be forced to invest in only the most competitive seats.

The Seals camp is quick to shake their fists in the air at Rahm, blaming him for not investing in the race, when in reality, Seals hit his high water mark. Bean won the second time around because she is a moderate - not a liberal in independent clothing.

The Chicago media market ain't cheap. Why go for three races with massive ad buys when you can use the same amount of money to go after 10 other seats.

While I hope you are wrong UM, I have a feeling that this is going to be difficult to hold in the R column.
